New
Regulations
Beginning
April 4, 2005, the
following regulations will be in force:
*Each
dog at Mt.
Misery
or in adjoining agricultural fields must be accompanied by a person who has the
dog under control by holding it firmly on a leash. It will no longer be
sufficient to have the dog under “voice control.” In addition, dogs will be reguired to stay on marked trails.
*Dogs
will not be allowed to swim in Mt.
Misery
ponds or to swim in the Sudbury
River
from Mt.
Misery
land.
*Dog
walkers will be required to collect all feces deposited by their dogs at Mt.
Misery
or the adjacent fields and to remove it from the area. Feces collection will
follow the “carry in, carry out” policy standard among conservation
organizations. That is, dog walkers will be responsible for bringing their own
plastic bags home with them. The town of Lincoln
will not provide bags or trash barrels for dog feces.
Conservation
Commission plans for enforcement.
Conservation Commission members met on 3/23/05, a week after
they held a public meeting to announce the new Mt.
Misery dog-walking regulations, to plot the commissions’s
approach to enforcement. Two-person teams, comprised of
Conservation Commission members and staff, will set up at the Rt. 117 parking
lot and on Old Concord Road,
near Lindentree Farm, in three-hour shifts beginning
next week. They will hand out flyers and inform the public about the new
regulations. New signs will be created announcing the new policies and placed
at those entrances. They will also have doggie bags available so that walkers
can pick up and remove their dog’s poops.
